Defining 'Working'

As you know that recently I have a big ball of tasks to be completed. Started from last week, all of my daily activities suddenly changed. I had to wake up in the very-early morning and then went to 3 or 4 places, and slept in the middle of the night. If you were questioning me whether I'm tired or not, my answer would be yes. However, my heart doesn't tell me that I'm in the midst of hard work.

Yep, that's what I'm going to discuss. How do you define "working"? I have two interesting stories to sketch the definition.

One bright day in a busy workshop, there was a manager doing his work. The work was so many that he thought that his head can be used to cook an egg. Once, he went out to check his employees works. The inspection usually is done twice in one day. So, He walked around in the workshop.

In other division, there was a clerk doing her clerical jobs. Like the manager, her head was so hot since there were many deadlines today. Having a big pressure she decided to go out and mangling with other employees. Then, she walked around in the workshop.

We can see from these two stories that there are two entities walking in the same building, or probably they do in the same time. I believe some of you guess that I'm going to ask how they feel when they are walking around. Yes, that exactly I wanna to ask. The manager thought that walking is working while the clerk said that walking is not working.

Another example is about breathing. Is breathing categorized as working? Many of us will answer 'no'. The answer is quite different when we ask to someone that has Pneumonia . I believe, we can hear "Yes" answer from his/her mouth. The patient feels that breathing is working.

In conclusion, For me, since 'working' is very subjective definition, 'not working' is when I enjoy doing the work and also I don't have to face stress when I'm doing the work. So, it's you turn to answer the question. How do you define 'working' ?

I do agree with you that working is subjective. However, technically speaking, work is whenever you exert force. By definition, i guess whatever we do is work. But what makes work amazing is that if you enjoy what you're doing and your happy with your work, it makes work not working. It's like making your hobby your job. Singers don't find singing as work but rather as a hobby. Same goes with dancers, bloggers and surfers. So bottom line is that work is exerting force that doesn't make you happy.
